Solo Exhibition of Jindrich Streit, Czech Republic September 29 - October 28, 2015 Czech Cultural Center
Prof. Jindřich Štreit (b. 1946) is a Czech photographer and educator, recognized to be amongst the most significant documentary photography masters.
He was arrested in 1982 for his exhibition ‘The Rally’, picturing the former Czechoslovakian president. He was sentenced to 10 months in prison, and his work was forbidden for long after that.
Jindrich Streit gained worldwide fame after his photographs were published by Henri Cartier Bresson in the French newspaper Le Monde.
After 1989, he was rehabilitated. Since 2009 he is professor at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He teaches at the Institute of Creative Photography at the Silesian University in Opava. Jindrich Streit is the author of more than 30 works in the field of photography. He was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.
