Veselina Nikolaeva: The Garden
Uncomfortable conversation about the marginalized life in a Roma neighbourhood
Тhis exhibition/installation resembles an uncomfortable conversation about the marginalized life in a Roma neighbourhood where ideals meet reality, culture meets culture and desire meets the unknown. The perspective is rather unusual – from the inside out, and the everyday lives of the Roma are told outside what is predictably shown by the Bulgarian media.
Vesselina Nikolaeva
“I document the fact that everything disappears forever”. Vesselina Nikolaeva searches, explores and shares the story. She tries to get into places where many are not allowed. She opens the eye of her camera to the periphery of society so she can concentrate on the individual. She gives up her own individuality so she can dedicate herself to her object. She graduated from the Academy of Arts in Utrecht where she currently teaches. Nikolaeva is the first woman to win the Canon Silver Camera Award. She divides her time between the Netherlands and Bulgaria.
